Raku Firing Expectations
For Students
Wear fairly heavy clothing protecting your arms.

No light polyester type clothing. Closed toe shoes. Consider tying back long hair.
Students should be present when firing their wares
No student allowed within the firing area marked by orange cones unless
approved

Pieces to Raku should be glazed at least 1 day prior to firing to ensure it is completely dry
Students must prepare their own reduction chamber before firing.
Students must be present and ready when the wares come out of the kiln to direct which chamber to put the piece in and cover their can at the right time
Gloves must be worn when closing the chamber with the lid
When covered take your chamber across the road by the fence
Do not open the can until you can touch the lid without gloves – warm OK but not hot usually in about 25 minutes. Wear gloves when removing the piece
If the participant has wares for subsequent firings they need to put their pieces in the electric kiln for warming.
Students will need to clean out their reduction chamber -removing burnt combustible material
